National Park of Kellerwald-Edersee

The Natural Park of Kellerwald and the National Park of Edersee are our natural heritage! There are always lots of things to discover and to enjoy, in spring, summer, autumn or even in winter.

The National Park of Kellerwald-Edersee is the first national park of Hessen. It covers a surface of approx. 6,000 ha and comprehends the biggest continuous woodrush beech forest in Central Europe.

Something special is waiting for you!
In both the national and the natural park visitors should not only enjoy the regenerative environment but also learn to be sensitive towards the wilderness and the future. The signposted hiking trails of “Edersee-Urwald” and “Kellerwald”, which runs along the Hotel Belvedere, are particularly spectacular.

High-Tech and Nature

At the Kellerwald National Park Center high-tech and nature melt to create charming performances and entertainment programs. Astonishing perspectives, a 4D sensorial movie, interactive exhibits that can be rotated, pushed, moved, and turned, will take you to a fantastic wild word and will reveal the secrets of the local beech forests.

Fallow deer within reach

The Wildlife Park of Edersee shelters some local wild species and some other animals that used to live in this area but that cannot be found here anymore. In the middle of the Wildlife Park there is also a raptor station that makes it possible to experience first-hand eagle owls, hawks, red kites, golden and imperial eagles.
